Mechanical Engineering Department – Facilities & Academic Infrastructure

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Silli Polytechnic is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and modern infrastructure designed to support Outcome-Based Education (OBE), as per NBA and AICTE guidelines. The department emphasizes experiential learning, skill development, and industry readiness through a balanced integration of theory, practical exposure, and advanced technological tools.

  1. Innovative Teaching–Learning Process
    The department adopts advanced pedagogical approaches, including Flipped Classroom methodology, to promote active learning, critical thinking, and improved academic performance. Both theory and laboratory sessions are delivered through student-centric and outcome-oriented strategies.
  2. CNC Laboratory (Advanced Manufacturing Lab)
    Equipped with CNC Lathe and CNC Milling Machines, the lab provides hands-on training aligned with modern industrial practices, enhancing students’ competencies in automation and precision manufacturing.
  3. Project & Innovation Laboratory
    A dedicated facility with internet connectivity to support minor/major projects, interdisciplinary innovation, and research-based learning, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills among students.
  4. Computer-Aided Design & Simulation Laboratory
    The lab is equipped with the latest versions of AutoCAD and SolidWorks, enabling students to develop design, modeling, and simulation skills. Integration with 3D printing technology supports rapid prototyping and product development.
  5. Metrology & Quality Control Laboratory
    Equipped with advanced measuring instruments, including a Profile Projector, this lab ensures practical exposure to precision measurement, inspection, and quality assurance techniques.
  6. Strength of Materials Laboratory
    The lab houses a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and other equipment to facilitate experimental analysis of material properties, helping students understand real-world engineering behavior.
  7. Training, Placement & Soft Skill Development
    The department ensures holistic student development through Spoken English and Personality Grooming programs conducted by Skill Academy, free of cost, enhancing employability and communication skills.
  8. Competitive Examination & Higher Education Support
    Structured guidance is provided for Government job examinations and higher studies (GATE/other competitive exams), enabling students to pursue diverse career pathways.
  9. Industry-Oriented Technical Skill Development
    In collaboration with Q Spider, students receive free training in API Testing, Java Programming, and Software Development, bridging the gap between core engineering and IT industry requirements.
  10. Mechanical Design & Prototyping Facility
    Students are trained in Mechanical Design Software (MDS) such as SolidWorks and are encouraged to convert their digital designs into physical prototypes using 3D printing, promoting innovation and product realization skills.
